Project Masiluleke's First Messages Launched

Posted: 24.10.2008

Project Masiluleke, a flagship project of Praekelt Foundation, in partnership with Pop!Tech, National Aids Helpline, iTeach and MTN, goes live in South Africa on the 1st of October 2008.

Project Masiluleke Goes Live in South Africa!

Our PCM (Please Call Me) campaign, in partnership with MTN, has sent out the first of millions of sms-messages with AIDS messaging incorporated in the body of the sms on the 1st of October 2008. This pilot phase of Project Masiluleke will run from the 1st of October to the 1st of December 2008 in South Africa, while the global launch of the project will take place at the 2008 Pop!Tech conference in Camden, Maine, USA, on the 23rd of October 2008. Initial findings show that the PCMs are highly effective, with call volumes to the National AIDS Helpline (whose number is included in the PCM) increasing dramatically in only the first week of the campaign. The campaign is therefore already reaching its goal of driving South Africans to access HIV/AIDS information, counseling, treatment and care.
